Betty L. Paxson

Betty L. Paxson of Topeka passed away on February 15, 2017. She was born May 2, 1941 in Warrensburg, Missouri to Walter and Una (Palmer) Barnes. Betty attended Warrensburg High, received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Washburn University and a Master of Political Science from the University of Kansas.

She married Don R. Paxson December 20, 1958 in Warrensburg. Betty was very active in the Kansas Democratic Party, serving as the State Chair of the 1976 Kansas Presidential Campaign for Jimmy Carter. In 1978 she ran for Kansas Secretary of State. She also served on many other gubernatorial and national campaigns.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and son, Barry. She is survived by her son, Brian (Nicole Jarboe-Paxson).

Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Betty's life from 2 to 4 p.m. March 4 at Penwell-Gabel Family Center, 1940 NW Central, Topeka, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Stratford Festival may be sent to the Betty Paxson Memorial Fund c/o Envista Credit Union 2120 SW Belle Ave. Topeka, KS 66614.
