Betty R. Thompson, 84, Topeka, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2009 at Presbyterian Manor.
Betty was born August 15, 1924 in Akron, OH, the daughter of Warren A. and Ruth B. Moring.
She served as a WAVE in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
She had worked as a staff nurse at Stormont-Vail Hospital for 16 years, retiring in 1983.
She was a member of Brookwood Covenant Church and the Stormont-Vail Retirees Club.
Betty married Frank Thompson, Jr. on August 1, 1945 in Pensacola, FL. He died May 14, 1977. Survivors include a sister, Lillian Kirkpatrick, Streamwood, IL; daughters, Col. (Ret) Janet R. Thompson, Colorado Springs, CO, Mary V. Allen, Topeka, Sara J. Strong, Olathe, Rebecca L. Freiberg, Hershey, PA; and grandchildren, Corey B. Sturgis, Boston, MA, Evan A. Strong, St. Louis, MO, Amy L. Strong, Topeka, Michael Freiberg, Diana Freiberg, and Seth Freiberg, all of Hershey, PA.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Dove Funeral Home, 4020 SW 6th. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state at the funeral home after noon on Wednesday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
