Betty A. Sowers, 77, of Berryton, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born October 5, 1939 in Oglesby, Texas, the daughter of Clarence and Garlena Belle (Henderson) Powell.
Betty graduated from Wichita Falls High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. She and her family owned and operated the Potter Tree Farm for many years. She retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of Berryton Baptist Church.
Betty married James "Pete" Potter Sr. and raised a family traveling extensively before eventually settling in Topeka. Betty was blessed to have found love twice and married Cliff Sowers.
Betty was a woman of faith, and will be remembered for the love that she showered on church members. She put Christ first and expressed her hope by teaching Sunday school and being involved with the leadership of Berryton Baptist Church.
Betty was also preceded in death by her parents and her first husband James Potter Sr. She is survived by her second husband Cliff Sowers, Berryton and brothers Johnny and Richard Powell. Her sons; Jim Potter Jr. Tecumseh, Doug Potter Sr., Topeka; son and daughter-in-law Tim and Clara Sowers, Berryton and Jeanne Sowers Terre Haute, IN. She is also survived by grandchildren: Chelsea Emery, Doug Potter Jr., Jessie Potter, Thomas Sowers, and Valerie Sowers. She was also blessed with many great-grandchildren who she cherished holding and watching them grow.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Burial will follow in West Lawn Memorial Gardens. Betty will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00- 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the funeral home.
