Betty Luann Thompson

Betty LuAnn (Kerns) Thompson, 79, of Topeka, KS passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2022 surrounded by family.

She was born December 27, 1942, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Kenneth V. and Evelyn (Sidfrid) Kerns.

Betty graduated from Washburn Rural High School in 1960. She furthered her education at Washburn University where she received her Bachelor Degree in Nursing in 1970.

She was employed with the state of Kansas as a Registered Nurse and retired after 50 years of service with the State.

Betty married Mario Guerrero, later she remarried to Clinton H. Thompson on May 28, 1979 in Topeka Kansas. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2020.

Survivors include her children, Mario Guerrero II (Jenni), Lydia "Missy" Guerrero and Clinese Thompson (Maxx Brown) all of Topeka; her sister, Jorene Kerns of California; her grandchildren, Lexi Guerrero (José Escobar), Kirstianna Guerrero, Mario Guerrero III and Lily Brown all of Topeka; 3 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends all around.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Jean Long and her brother, Kenneth "Buzzy" Kerns.

Betty enjoyed passing on traditions in cooking such as how to make jellies and fudge to her grandchildren, watching hallmark movies, gardening, finding antique treasures at flea markets, and eating fried chicken.

A Celebration of Betty's Life will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2022 at Dove Cremations and Funerals – Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66604. A visitation will take place at 1:00 pm and a reception will follow the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Disabled and Proud Foundation of Kansas, P.O. Box 67102 Topeka, KS 66667.

The Disabled and Proud Foundation of Kansas is a nonprofit started by Betty's granddaughter, Kirstianna. The mission is to celebrate the beauty and diversity of the disability community while creating visibility, awareness, and acceptance throughout the state. Betty loved hearing all of Kirsti's ideas and was excited for the first event which will be a parade held on July 23rd this year.

Donors may also make memorial contributions to TARC which provides services for her daughter Missy, 2701 SW Randolph Ave., Topeka, KS 66611.
