Betty J. Tuffley Spencer, 94, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2020.

She was born May 1, 1926, in Toledo, Ohio, the daughter of George and Ella (Haley) Shirley. She graduated from Waite High School in 1944.

She enjoyed visiting with family and was very proud of all of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved to work cross word puzzles and read books.

She learned to golf at the age of 56 years old with her husband Spence. Together they enjoyed going for rides in the car.

Betty married Don Tuffley, Sr. on May 31, 1946; he preceded her in death September 18, 1980. She later married Ervin "Spence" Spencer on December 10, 1982; he preceded her in death on April 5, 2015. Survivors include her children, Sharon (Wayne) Johnson, Carol (Dennis) Honohan, Donald (Karen) Tuffley, Jr., Gail (Jack) Carlson, and Barbara (Bill) Rice; brother, Frank Shirley; step-son, John Spencer; 13 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands.

Betty will Lie In State from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at Dove Cremations, Funerals and Receptions – Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66610.

A Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Memorial Park Cemetery, 3616 SW Sixth Ave., Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Aldersgate Good Samaritan Fund 7220 SW Asbury Dr. Topeka, KS 66614, Countryside United Methodist Church 3221 SW Burlingame Rd. Topeka, KS 66611 or to donor's choice.
