Beverly B. Grimshaw, Topeka, passed away peacefully August 4, 2008 at the age of 84. She was born in Ishpeming, Michigan on July 27, 1924 to Ian H. and Edna (Welander) Brown. She spent her childhood in Marquette, Michigan where she enjoyed ice-skating and snow skiing. She was the second of two brothers and a sister who preceded her in death.
Beverly was a 1947 nursing graduate of Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She served two years as a Cadet Army Nurse at Winter Veterans Hospital from 1947-1949. Beverly graduated with honors from Washburn University in 1950.
Beverly was married to Dr. John A. Grimshaw, from 1949-1969. They had six children. She was later married to Captain James Kanney from 1976-1978.
Beverly was a past member of the League of Women Voters. She belonged to a sewing club made up of special friends dating back to the late 1940's. Beverly spent her summers with family in Marquette, Michigan on the lake her father named, "Kawbawgam" , after Chief Kawbawgam of the Ojibiwa tribe. Beverly spent the winter months at her home in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Throughout her lifetime she donated to several charities including UNICEF, American Cancer Society and the March of Dimes.
Beverly is survived by her six children, Ann Grimshaw, Laura (Ron) McCall, Cindy (Mark) Stubbs, Kathy (Bob) Devlin, John Grimshaw, Tom Grimshaw, and her seven grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 8. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St, Suite 100, Topeka, KS, 66614.
