Beverly Jeanne (Wilson) Shurtz, 88, Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at a local care center.
Beverly was born December 10, 1930 in Topeka, the daughter of Ray Elmer and Dorothea Alice (Brandenburg) Wilson. She graduated from Topeka High School in 1948 and from the University of Kansas in 1952 with a degree in Music Education.
She taught music in the Auburn Washburn School District for 12 years and later was employed at Blue Cross & Blue Shield, retiring in 1991.
She enjoyed bowling, knitting, other crafts and traveling.
Beverly married Donald Shurtz on June 7, 1953 in Beloit. He survives. Other survivors include their children, Ronald (Patricia) Shurtz, Steven (Margaret) Shurtz, Vicki (Ronald) Harding; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Wilson Mattingly.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
