Carl R. "Jiggs" Paden, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014 at Brewster Place. He was born February 22, 1924 in Bentonville, Arkansas, the son of Harry L. and Marion Overton Paden.
Jiggs graduated from Topeka High School and attended the University of Kansas. He was an Army veteran of WWII. He served in the Pacific Theater and was awarded the Bronze Star. Jiggs was employed as a land surveyor for his brother's company, Paden & Bartlett which later became Bartlett & West for 33 years before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Jiggs hobbies included pottery, golf and sailing. He was also a radio Ham operator (WYQM). He was also involved with Boy Scout Troop No. 9 and Troop No. 13.
Jiggs married Lela Diers on May 24, 1953 in Beloit, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Doug (Janelle) Paden of Newton, KS, Gerry (Pam) Paden of Roeland Park, KS, one daughter, Peggy Paden of Topeka, 5 grandchildren, Matthew (Amanda), Abigail, Blake, Mitchell and Jonathan and 2 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophia.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church. Private inurnment will take place in Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605 or Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th St., Ste. 100, Topeka, KS 66614. Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel is assisting the family.
