Carl Richards

Carl Richards, 80, of Topeka died Wednesday, April 28, 2004 at a Topeka care facility. He was born on June 1, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of George and Ethel Murphy Richards. He came to Topeka at the age of three. He farmed his entire life. He was a member of Tecumseh United Methodist Church, Shawnee County Farm Bureau and served on the board of the Farm Service Agency for thirty-three years. He married Ruth Jean Schutz on April 27, 1944 at Richland, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include two sons; Carl "Butch" and Patty Richards, James and Pam Richards, three grandsons and three granddaughters; five great-grandchildren and one brother; Marvin Richards of Hemet, California. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel. Private burial will take place in Bethel Cemetery southeast of Topeka. Mr. Richards will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Highland Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the Tecumseh United Methodist Church, 334 S.E. Tecumseh Rd., Tecumseh, Ks. 66542. Online condolences may be given to the family at www.penwellgabel.com.
