Carol Suegillespiehailey Locke

February 23, 1934 — April 16, 2014

Carol Sue Gillespie Hailey Locke passed away on April 16, 2014.
She was born on February 23, 1934 at Christ's Hospital in Topeka, KS.
Carol was the daughter of Jesse W. and Jennie Moore Gillespie. A
graduate of Highland Park High School, Carol also attended Washburn
University to follow her passion of working with elders.

Carol's first career was as a life guard and swimming instructor. She
was employed by the YWCA in both its original location on Van Buren and
in its current location on 12th Street in Topeka. In 1977, Carol started her
second career at the United Methodist Home where she was Director of
Programs and Activities. Carol was dedicated to the staff and residents
and retired in 1998.

Carol loved spending time with her family as well as making new
friends. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed Sunday afternoon
drives to explore new places. Carol was an avid reader, enjoyed
gardening, sewing and most of all cooking for her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Don Locke, Berryton, KS; son Doug
(Dianna) Hailey, Edmond, OK; three daughters Gail (Darrell) Miller,
Mankato, KS, Glenda (Mark) Scheid, Topeka, KS and Gina (Joe) Tenbrink,
Berryton, KS; brother Lindsay (Lillian) Gillespie, Oak Harbor, WA;
stepdaughters, Lisa (Ed Lohf) Locke, Topeka, KS and Lori (Eddie) South,
Blanchard, OK. Beloved grandchildren Sarah (Jason) Reichart, Jared
(Allison) Herl, Scott (Erica) Miller, Lindsay Tenbrink, Kyle Tenbrink and
David Locke Lohf and great-grandchildren Henry Reichart and Amaya &
Malia Herl.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the
Highland Park United Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be
held at Penwell Gabel Southeast Chapel on April 23, 2014 from 6:00
p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private family inurment will take place at the Auburn
Cemetery, Auburn, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials for Carol may be made to the American
Cancer Society or the Helping Hands Humane Society and sent in care of
Penwell Gable Funeral Home.
