Carole Jean (Bloomfield) Etzel died peacefully at her home surrounded by family on Friday, September 4, after a prolonged illness. She was 74.
Mrs. Etzel was born on May 25, 1941 in Los Angeles, CA to Lorraine Evelyn Smither Plummer Bloomfield Frederick and William Edward Bloomfield, Sr. She moved to Topeka at an early age and attended Hayden High School, graduating in 1959. She attended Lorreto Heights College - Denver, CO, UCLA - Westwood, CA, and Washburn University, earning a B.Ed in 1963. From 1964 to 1969, Mrs. Etzel taught elementary school at Corpus Christi Elementary - Pacific Palisades, CA, Indian Creek Elementary School - Topeka, KS, and Pauline Central Elementary School - Topeka, KS. She married Timothy Noel Etzel at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka on July 10, 1965. In September 1966 she co-founded Jetz Service Co., Inc. with her husband Tim.
Mrs. Etzel is survived by her husband Tim, sister Joanne (Jim) Hunter - Manhattan Beach, CA, brother Bill (Susan) Bloomfield, Jr. - Manhattan Beach, CA, children Joelle (Parker) Scott - Poway, CA, Kristin Rosendale - Fort Lauderdale, FL, Noel (Mary) Etzel - Ozawkie, KS, and seven grandchildren; Andrew, Alina and Ainsley Scott, Matt and Ally Rosendale, and Trey and Lydia Etzel.
Family will receive visitors at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 5973 SW 25th Street, Topeka prior to the funeral service to be held at 10:00 a.m. Private entombment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mayo Clinic, Department of Development, 200 First Street, SW, Rochester, MN 55905; Washburn University Foundation 1729 SW MacVicar Ave., Topeka, KS 66604; or Christ the King Catholic Church. Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel is assisting the family.
