Carolyn "Carol" J. (Hart) Steward, 78, of Topeka, passed away on January 8, 2018. Born August 12, 1939, in Beloit, KS, she was the daughter of Daniel Price McKnight and Betty Louise (Hart) Sherrill.
She graduated from Wichita State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing.
Carol was the Director of Nursing for Lantern Park Manor in Colby, KS. She then worked as a Registered Nurse for 13 years for the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka, where she developed the Certified Nursing Assistant program.
On August 31, 1960, Carol married Dean Steward in Grenola, KS.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church where she served as chair of the United Methodist Women. Carol enjoyed playing the piano, cooking and reading. She adored her beloved boxer, Gracie.
She is survived by her husband, two daughters; Christine (Glenn) Griffin of Colby, KS and Carla Steward of Plainville, KS, six grandchildren; Lacy Moore, Lucas (Christin) Moore, Charissa Sander, Breanna Sander, Bobby Sander and Hayden Berland and one great-grandchild, Jalyn Moore.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, 4525 NW Button Rd, Topeka, KS 66618. The family will greet friends one hour prior to service.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Hill United Methodist or the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N Kansas Ave, Topeka, KS 66608.
