Carolyn Sue Thomason, 73, of Topeka, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, February 18, 2024.
She was born October 3, 1950, in Burlington, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence L. and Esther H. (Krull) Johnson. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1968 and attended Clark Business School and Washburn University.
Carolyn was employed as a computer and braille instructor for the State of Kansas Services for the Blind for over 40 years, retiring in 2007.
Ms. Thomason was a member of the Shawnee Swingers square dancers and the Kansas Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired for many years.
Carolyn married Joe Perez on February 14, 1986 in Topeka; he later preceded her in death. She then married Jimmy Thomason on February 8, 2007; he preceded her in death in 2010. Survivors include a daughter, Michelle Cervantez (Victor) of Topeka; grandchildren Jace, Kinsley, Isabelle, and Mateo; step-granddaughter May Perez; and her sister-in-law Luella Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Joe and Jimmy; and her siblings Hartley Johnson and Marlys Burghart.
Carolyn enjoyed square dancing, playing card games, puzzles, and watching her soap operas. Even after retirement she still worked with and supported the blind community. She took great pride in being a grandmother.
A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22nd at the Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21st at the Southwest Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to the family for future donation.
