Catherine Susan Ann Downey

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Catherine Susan Ann (Wilson) Downey of Topeka, KS, age 77.
Cathy passed away on June 9, 2022. Cathy was born to Albert R. and Daphna M (Wurtz) Wilson on August 20, 1944, in Kermit, TX.
Cathy married James Terrill Clark from Concordia, KS. They had 3 daughters; they were married for 12 years. After her divorce, with her children by her side, the family moved to Topeka, KS.
Cathy was employed at the Veterans Administration as a CMA for 15 years, at Essex Wire where Cathy was the first woman coiler and Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT). Cathy retired from KDOT as an Administrative Specialist in the Bureau of Right of Way with 20 years of employment.
Cathy was always assisting others, rescuing an animal in need, or gazing at various birds and the beautiful sunflowers while in full bloom. Many have been graced with Cathy's true selfless acts, she stated that her soul purpose was to follow the word of God, to instruct her how to help others, whether it be lending a hand, advice, money, or her personal vehicle.
Cathy attended the North Topeka Baptist Church where she held the position as one of their Deaconess. Cathy never missed a church event, bible study or any extra event held by the church.
She is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Shawn) Francis of Topeka, KS, Tammi (Kaylene) Clark of Edgerton, KS and Tabitha Taylor of Topeka, KS; brother, James (Barbara) Wilson of Kearney, MO; sisters, Barbara (Chris) Welsh of Topeka, KS and Loretta (Gary) Stevens of DeSoto; 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Alfred Wilson and Robert Wilson; sister, Nancy (Wilson) Richards and two nephews, Jeffery Richards and Michael Wilson.
A Memorial Service for Cathy will be held 10:30 am on June 30, 2022 at the North Topeka Baptist Church, 123 NW Gordon St., Topeka, KS 66608. Inurnment of Cathy's cremated remains will take place on July 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Clyde, KS.
The family request that in lieu of flowers to please donate in her name to the North Topeka Baptist Church, 123 NW Gordon St., Topeka, KS 66608 or to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, KS 66604 to assist with the helping of others.
Dove Cremations and Funerals – Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Rd., Topeka, KS 66610 is assisting the family.
