Cecil M. Thompson, 92, of Topeka, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at a Topeka care facility. She was born September 21, 1921 in Amarillo, TX, the daughter of Willie and Carrie Moore Woods.
Cecil was employed as a housekeeper. She was a member of the Church of the Living God, C.W.F.F. Temple 35, Myra Chapter No. 5, O.E.S. and the Oasis Court No. 44 Daughters of Isis.
Cecil married Leon W. Thompson. He preceded her in death on March 2, 1999. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Bowman, Clara S. White and Rosemary Burnette and two brothers, Harlan Woods and William J. Henry and adopted daughter, Katherine L. Barrow and niece, Cynthia L. Henry.
Survivors include her nephews, William D. Henry of Topeka, Fred A. Burnette of Dallas, TX, Steven C. Henry of Dallas, TX, Emanuel J. Burnette of Kansas City, MO, Clinton F. Burnette of Highlands Ranch, CO, Maurice L. Burnette of Topeka, Minister Andre R. Burnette of Topeka; nieces, Patricia M. Henry of Bakersfield, CA, Stephanie J. Henry of Kansas City, MO, Jacqueline S. Burnette of Overland Park, KS, Rosemary Patton of Topeka; grandson, Dale L. Barrow of Topeka; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Cecil will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
