Cecil W. Tipton, 80, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at his home. He was born on April 3, 1927 in Picher, Ok, the son of William and Elva (Rich) Tipton. Cecil had lived in Topeka for most of his life. He attended Topeka High before joining the Navy. After his service in the Navy, he was employed with Goodyear Tire & Rubber in Topeka for 37 years, retiring in 1987. Cecil was married to Betty Moth on September 24, 1948 and she preceded him in death, as well as brothers: Richard Tipton, Gene Tipton, Robert Tipton, Donald Tipton, Jimmie Tipton, and sisters: Betty Stadler, Marguerite Ellis, and Louise Hawver. Cecil married Barbara (Medford) Tipton on June 15, 1992. She survives as well as his son, Charles Tipton and wife Pamela of Topeka, and daughters Linda Mercer and husband Steve of Topeka, and Kathy Tipton of Houston, Texas. Cecil is also survived by two brothers, Virgil and Mary Tipton of Meriden, and Jerry and Joyce Tipton of Marble, North Carolina; one sister, Mildred and Charles Wray, Topeka.
Cecil was also blessed with five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 24, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. A private inurnment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
