Charles A. Cozad, Sr., 88, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2006 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on April 23, 1918 in Topeka, the son of John and Bertha P. Kern Cozad. He graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University. He was an Army veteran of WWII. Charles owned and operated Hi-Percent Stock Feed and Mineral Company and Cozad Construction Company. He then became a property officer for the U.S. Government where he retired in 1978. He was a life time member of First Baptist Church where he served on many boards and as an usher. He served as a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop No. 13. Charles married Maryjo Davis on November 7, 1942 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Charles A. Cozad, II of Topeka, one daughter, Jacque Hale and husband, Larry of Lecompton, two step-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Edna Harris. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church, 3033 S.W. MacVicar Ave. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. Charles will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel.
