Charles O. Barnett, 75, Topeka, passed away quietly on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 at his residence.
Charles was born October 23, 1932 in Kirksville, MO, the son of Charles C. and Ruth (Leavitt) Barnett. He attended schools in Adair County and graduated from Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville with a degree in Business Administration.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the Signal Corps.
Charles married Mary L. Renno on November 11, 1961 in Sedalia, MO. They met while he was employed at the First State Savings & Loan. They later moved to Topeka where he was employed at Capital Federal Savings & Loan. After 25 years, he retired as Senior Vice President for Accounting in 1995.
He had been a member of the Downtown Kiwanis Club, Jaycees, Elks Club, and spent much of his time in recent years restoring antique clocks and researching the genealogy of both his and his wife's families.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years; son, Dr. Robert Barnett, Topeka; step-daughter, Priscilla Daniels, Topeka; grandchildren, Brandon, Aislynn and Elise Barnett, Shawn Cowing, Karen Oliver; and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Barnett.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 28, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Sedalia, MO. Charles will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. today and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
