Charles R. Bennett Jr., of Topeka, passed away Friday, September 18, 2020 at the age of 40.
Charles Jr. (Charlie) was born on July 6, 1980 in Wichita, Kansas to proud parents, Charles Sr. and Jung Bennett. He was the youngest of three children with two older brothers, Bobby and John. Charlie was raised in Halstead, Kansas and graduated from Halstead High School. Following graduation, Charlie attended Kansas State University, where he received his bachelor's degree in business administration.
Charlie never met a stranger – he could walk right up to anyone and start a conversation. His outgoing personality could get anyone talking, and that skill served him well in his professional role as Senior Director of Sales at Arla Foods. Charlie loved his work and was able to travel the world. He enjoyed seeing many places that most have us haven't had the pleasure of visiting.
One of Charlie's passions in life was classic cars. He loved to take his trophy '72 Chevelle to car shows every chance he could get. He could talk cars for hours and enjoyed collecting and working on vehicles he would buy as projects. Charlie also loved sports – He was an incredible athlete in high school. Charlie was an accomplished nose tackle on the football team, and track state champion in the 4x100 meter relay. Even up until his last days, Charlie loved reminiscing about his high school sports days. He also loved watching and attending Kansas City Chiefs, Royals and KSU games with friends.
Charlie's greatest love, though, is his family. Charlie's dad, Charles Sr., and his mom, Jung, his brother John (wife, Abby), and his precious nephews and nieces. Charlie was preceded in death by his beloved brother, Bobby. Family meant the world to Charlie – and to him – anyone he loved was his family. His closest friends always knew how deeply he loved and cared for them. Charlie had a unique intuition in sensing when someone he loved needed him and he never hesitated to help them. He was a gentle and patient soul, a true angel on earth, who had a beautiful talent for meeting people on their level, which is why he was so adored by the children in his life. Charlie had an incredible sense of humor, and if you were lucky enough to spend time with him, you were always laughing with him. Our Charlie loved God and those who love Charlie know that he is with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and one day we will see him again.
Charlie's earthly body was cremated. A memorial ceremony will be held at Dove Funeral Home in Topeka, Kansas on Saturday, October 3 at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.jrdf.org, a cause close to Charlie's heart.
