Charles F. "Frank" McGinn, 72, Topeka, KS, passed away Thursday, November 13, 2014, at Stormont-Vail Hospital.
Frank was born July 29, 1942, in Onaway, MI, the son of Lance and Alice (Gaudette) McGinn. He graduated from Onaway High School and George Washington University, and served in the U.S. Navy for 31 years, retiring at the rank of Commander in 1992. He was married to Nacema David for twenty years, and was married to Geraldine McGinn for six years.
Frank was a member of the Onaway, MI and Mayetta, KS chapters of the Freemasons, and was an active member of the Shriners. Some of his favorite activities included spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, reading, traveling, going to movies, following the Emporia State softball team, and attending his grandson's tennis matches. Frank was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, who gave tirelessly and was always ready and willing to help others. He often volunteered to transport children to Shrine Hospitals, and he enjoyed driving his Shriner vehicle as part of the parade unit. Frank also actively supported many people with their sobriety.
Survivors include daughters, Alice (Tony) Weingartner, Topeka, KS, and Karen McGinn, Baltimore, MD; son, Frank McGinn, Jr., Haymarket, VA; grandchildren, Hannah and Liam Weingartner; brothers, Dick McGinn and Rex McGinn; and sisters, Sharon Taylor and Sandra Brown. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert McGinn and Ronald McGinn; and sister, Sally Rushton.
Cremation has taken place, and Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2014, at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends at the chapel one hour prior to the service.
