Charles Clayton Hartner, 97, Topeka, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012 at Rolling Hills Health Center. Charles was born May 1, 1915 in Topeka, the son of William and Grace Bailor Hartner.
He married Eula Maxine Duff on April 12, 1941. She preceded him in death on April 7, 1995. He was employed at Ed Bozarth Chevrolet as an auto mechanic, retiring in 1980.
Charles served in the U. S. Army during WWII, 161st Infantry Division, Pacific Theater. He was awarded a Bronze Star. Charles was a member of American Legion Post No. 1, Masonic Lodge No. 17 since 1945, the Arab Shrine, Provost Guard Unit, since 1996 and the Combat Infantrymen's Association.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny (Marc) Nelson; granddaughters, Erika (Karl) Martens, Brandy (Shane) Landry; great- grandchildren, Amalie Landry and Oliver Landry; brother, Gary (Judy) Hartner and sister, Helen Harding.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday at the Mount Hope Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will greet from 10:30 am until service time in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
