Charles William Spiegel, Jr., 94, Topeka, passed away Friday, December 23, 2011 at a local care center.
Charles was born December 27, 1916 in Topeka, the son of Charles William and Minnie (Anderson) Spiegel, Sr. He graduated from Topeka High School in the class of 1937.
He was in the Army from 1942 until 1945, serving in France and Germany.
He worked as a printer for the Topeka Capital Journal for 22 years, retiring in 1981.
Charles was a member of Crestview United Methodist Church.
Charles married Florence Grace Conkright in 1940 in St. Joseph, MO and celebrated 70 years of marriage with his wife prior to her death in 2010. Survivors include their children, Don (Linda) Spiegel, Carrollton, MO, David Spiegel, Janet Spiegel, both of Topeka; 7 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The family suggests expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorials to Unity Church of Christianity, 9126 SW 10th, Topeka, Kansas 66614.
