Chonette D. Gray

August 10, 1954 — November 11, 2017

Chonette Diane Gray, 63, of Topeka, passed away November 11, 2017. She was born August 10, 1954 in Kansas City, Kansas to Alvin William and Elsa Marie (Hardesty) Cook. She was raised in Topeka after the age of 4. She attended Polk Elementary, Crane Junior High and Topeka High School, graduating with the class of 1972. She attended and graduated from business school in Salina, Kansas.

Chonette married Johnnie L. Gray in Denver, Colorado on September 19, 1987. Johnnie preceded her in death in 2004.

She was employed by AT&T until November of 2004. She was a member of Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed Bingo, Bible studies, sewing of all kinds (cross stitch was her favorite), and she knitted blankets.

Her life was lived and filled with a joyful spirit and a love filled heart. She loved going to church and Bible study – a faithful church goer. She was always willing to help out when she could with luncheons, dinners and revivals until her health prevented her getting out. She had a very kind heart and would do whatever she could for anyone.

After retiring, she and her husband raised one of her grandsons, Ellijah for several years. She always enjoyed her nephew, nieces, grand-nephew and grand-nieces. She was an avid animal lover, having been raised with pets and often had a cat or dog or both of her own. She enjoyed everyone's pets.

She is survived by her sister Dawn "Mickey" Seibert (George) and her brother Mike A. Cook; one nephew Damon; three nieces: Amber, Stacie and Kristina; several great nieces and nephews; step-children and step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be held at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service Chapel on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00PM. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM. Private burial will be at Westlawn Memorial Gardens, Garden of Prayer II.

Memorial contributions may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st Street, Topeka, KS 66604.

Father, Thank you that through Christ, You have brought me to Yourself. You reign over my life and you always remember me. Amen.
