Christina J. Faunce

Christina J. Faunce, 85, Meriden, passed away on Sunday, October 11, 2009.

Christina was born October 4, 1924 in Buchanan County, Missouri, the daughter of Timothy and Lora (Wells) Mears. She grew up on a farm and loved the country. She graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph, MO.

She was employed by Southwestern Bell in Topeka and retired after 25 years of service. She later retired from Russell Stover Candies as a store manager in Topeka.

She was an active member of Women of the Moose, Topeka Chapter No. 1091, receiving the highest degree of College of Regents, and also the Academy of Friendship and Star Recorder degrees. She was a Life member of Telephone Pioneers of America.

Christina married Harold E. Faunce on September 4, 1960 in Topeka. He died in February, 1979. Survivors include daughter, Linda (Ronald) Vander Ploeg, Topeka; grandchildren, Richard (Karen) Vander Ploeg, Gregory Vander Ploeg, Ronna (Brian) Henderson; great grandchildren, Connor, Blake, Chase and Brooke Henderson; brothers, Jerald, David, Donald, Dale and Larry Mears; and a sister, Allene Carmain.

Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at the Denison Cemetery in Denison. Christina will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice Services, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
