Clarence "Tuffy" Kellogg, 83, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. "Tuffy" was born on December 15, 1922 in Glasco, the son Leonard and Jessie Kellogg. He lived in Oregon for the first nine years of his life. He had two brothers, Larry and Ken, both deceased and a sister, Evelyn Benson who lives in Oregon. He graduated from Junction City High School and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He served three years as a Turret Gunner during WWII. He received two air medals and the distinguished flying cross for action in the Pacific. He married Elaine Bennett when home on leave from boot camp. She survives and lives at Aldersgate Village but will soon be moving to Ocala, FL to reside near her son. He is survived by his son, Mike, two grandchildren, Holly Long and Patrick Kellogg of Dallas, TX, and four great-grandchildren. His step-mother, Marie Kellogg lives in Lees Summit, MO. and he has two nieces living in Oregon. He graduated from Kansas Wesleyan of Salina, KS with a degree in education. He taught physical education and coached at Agra, KS (Eastern Heights), Mankato, Junction City and Highland Park High School in Topeka. He later served as the first elementary physical education in Topeka.; He and Dr. Q. Groves were responsible for the present day physical education and the Topeka Outdoor Environmental Education Program. After retiring from U.S.D. 501 as a consultant in Physical Education, he drove an activities bus for the district for 17 years. Celebration services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Cremation will follow services. Private inurnment will take place at a later date. "Tuffy" will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 20, 2006 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice Care, 200 S.W.
