Clair D. Bixel, 95, of Topeka, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Midland Hospice House. He was born February 14, 1919 at Rauchtown, PA, the son of George and Matilda Bixel.
Clair spent his early years in Johnstown, PA graduating from Ferndale High School in 1937. He was married on October 13, 1943 to Kathryn E. Dawson, deceased.
Clair was in the US Army Air Corps from January 1942 to September 1947. He then enlisted in the US Air Force in 1947. Clair was in the Air Force more than 27 years, achieving the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1965. He retired from duty in October of 1969.
Clair is survived by his eight children, twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, and one sister. He is preceded in death by his wife, a sister, a brother, and one grandson.
