Clarence Barker, 90, of Topeka, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2010.
Clarence was born February 13, 1920 in Pratt, KS, the son of Clarence B. and Lucy E. (Hamm) Barker. He graduated from Pratt High School and Pratt County Community College, Pittsburg State University and received his Masters Degree from the University of Colorado.
He served with the US Army Air Corps during World War II as an Intelligence Officer, in North Africa, Italy, and England.
Clarence was engaged in farming near Pratt until seriously injured in a farming accident in 1954. He then went back to school and received degrees in education, mathematics, and psychology.
He was subsequently employed as a school teacher in Pueblo, CO., then with the Dept of HEW in Washington DC, as a guidance counselor in both Holton and Burrton, and for the final 15 years of his employment as a State savings and loan examiner based in Topeka.
Clarence married Eva Joyce Nichols on August 9, 1946 in Hutchinson. She died April 4, 2003.
Survivors include sons, Stephen (Yolanda) Barker, Tucson, AZ, Terry (Susan) Barker, Topeka; grandchildren, Chad (Lisa) Barker, Holton, Kerri (Zac) Parrington, Hoyt, Amber (Tony) Weber, Topeka, Matt (Jill) Barker, Topeka; 11 great grandchildren; and brother, Morton Barker, Pratt. He was also preceded in death by brother, Norman Barker; and sister, Evelyn Johnson.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, November 19, 2010 in the Lower Level Auditorium at Topeka Bible Church, 1101 Mulvane in Topeka.
Inurnment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
