Clarence C. Finney, Jr.

November 20, 1933 — May 5, 2016

Clarence Charles "Pete" Finney passed away on May 5th, 2016 surrounded by his loving children and dear friends. He was born November 20, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri to Clarence Charles "Bing" and Ruth Jane (Cummings) Finney and attended Central High School in Kansas City, MO. In his late forties Pete attended the University of Virginia for several weeks of Lending college.

Pete enlisted in the United States Army in January of 1954. He was a Specialist in the 92nd Engineering Battalion where he served as a carpenter. He enrolled in the Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC). His enlistment ended in January of 1957, at which time Pete came home to be with friends and family.

Pete began work as a Mortgage lender with Household Finance where he lived in Dallas, TX, St. Augustine, FL, New Orleans, LA and Roswell, NM. In Olathe, KS Pete worked for First National Bank until 1976 when he and his family moved to Topeka, KS to work for Merchants National Bank. He ended his banking experiences with Shawnee Federal Savings. When he finished his consumer lending career, he began his favorite career of being a Security Officer for Stormont-Vail Hospital and a Volunteer Sheriff for Shawnee County. There are many stories from the health care professionals about how much Pete enjoyed his time at Stormont-Vail.

Pete's true passions were running and golf and the many friends he found in his journeys. Pete easily found friends wherever he went in life and continued to keep those friends for many decades. Pete was a founding member of the Sunflower Striders association and completed 10+ marathons in his lifetime.
Pete married his third wife Abbie Hunsberger-Finney in April of 1993 in Allen, KS.

Pete is survived by his wife Abbie, children Dru Finney (Kori), Ellen Pursell (Walt), and Vince Finney (Leanne), and step children Eric Hunsberger (Katie) and Sarah Hudson (Dustin). Along with 12 wonderful grandchildren Loghan, Loren, Wyatt, Sierra, Avery, Ben, Isaac, Jet, Justice, Kyler, Dylan and Dawson, and other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents "Bing" and Ruth Finney and his sister Donna Francine Nickum.
