Clayton C. McMurray, 97, Topeka, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Aldersgate Village.

Clayton was born October 28, 1920 in Sharon Springs, Kansas, the son of Harold D. and Lois H. (Case) McMurray. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kansas City Kansas Junior College and the University of Kansas. Clayton loved the KU Jayhawks, the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945, attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in Algiers, Italy and France as a medic for the 36th General Hospital based in Camp Carson, Colorado.

Clayton was a Certified Public Accountant for two firms in the Kansas City area; Garrison, Gresser, McMurray and Myers in Topeka, and Fox & Company in Topeka, until he retired in 1981.

He was a member of the Downtown Optimist Club, where he served one year as President; the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce, where he served as Treasurer and the President of the Administrative Management Society. Clayton was previously a member of the First Methodist Church, and a current member of Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene.

Clayton married Gwendolyn Ruth Linch on February 8, 1942 in Kansas City, KS. His wife of 76 years survives. Other survivors include their children, David McMurray (Cindy Robinson), Prairie Village, Nancy (John) Shubin, Colorado Springs, CO, Sharon Miller, Topeka; 5 grandchildren, Claire McMurray (Ben Johnson), Brad (Amber) Miller, Marcella (Jeremy) Jewel, Angela (Ethan) Waples, Ryan (Adrienne) Miller, and 10 great grandchildren, Ava Miller, Brody Miller, Brynlee Waples, Aiden Miller, Adelyn Jo Waples, Ryenne Miller, Rosemary Johnson, Harper Waples, Ezra Jewell and Josephine Johnson . He was preceded in death by his brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 3, 2018 at Dove Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Private family burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wanamaker Woods Church of the Nazarene, KU Endowment Association, Friends of the Topeka Zoo or Helping Hands Humane Society.
