Cleo C. Strasser, Jr., 68, Emporia, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005 at a Topeka nursing home.
He was born March 24, 1937 in Emporia, the son of Cleo C. and Martha M. Van Law Strasser. He was a lifelong resident of Emporia.
Following his graduation from Emporia High School in 1956, he joined the US Navy. He was stationed at Great Lakes, IL, and was honorably discharged in 1958.
Mr. Strasser retired in 1987 after serving for 27 years on the fire department and ambulance service. He also owned his own construction business for 12 years and later worked for Wal-Mart for 12 years.
He married Delia J. Moreland on Jan. 31, 1969 in Emporia. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Steven Strasser, Wichita, Cleo C. Strasser III, Des Moines, IA; one daughter, Brenda Sauer, address unknown; one brother, Truman Strasser, Warrensburg, MO; two sisters, Ida Odle, Osage City, Cleone Vail, Ft. Collins, CO; four step-daughters, Diane Wilson, Parker, CO, Connie Comstock, Topeka, Patricia Burris, Topeka, Elaina Hanold, Oliver Springs, TN; three grandchildren and seven step-grandchildren.
Services will be 10:00 am Friday at Newcomer Family Funeral Home. Interment will be in Penwell-Gabel's Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Slasser will lie in state on Friday from 8:00 am until service time.
