Clinton C. Acheson, 94, Topeka, died October 15, 2008 at Aldersgate Village.
The son of Harry W. and Avalena C. Acheson, he was born October 22, 1913 near Auburn, Kansas on the farm homesteaded by his grandfather in the 1850s. He attended a one room country school, graduated from Auburn High School and Baker University where he was a member of the Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
He served with the 328th Infantry Regiment in Europe during World War II where he led an Infantry Company in three campaigns including The Battle of The Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
He was a staff executive with the Kansas State Chamber of Commerce for 32 years and later was elected to three terms in the Kansas House of Representatives.
He was a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Topeka, The Topeka Fortnightly Club, Arab Shrine, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Military Order of World Wars, Retired Officers Association and the Senior Council of the Topeka Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include two nieces; Sara Collins of Gilbert, AZ and Lynette Mills of Centerville, UT. Four step children; Dr. Elaine Beaty, Decatur, GA, Janice Mead, Casa Grande, AZ, Dr. Daniel Acheson-Brown, Portales, NM and James Kaup, Maricopa, AZ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Acheson in 2007.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 17, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemtery. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 18, 2008 in the parlor in Manchester Lodge at Aldersgate Village.
