Clista "Chris" J. Shumate, 68, of Tecumseh, KS, passed away November 5, 2017 at her home after a seven year battle with cancer. She was born at Topeka, KS to Silver K. and Anna M. (Smith) Wenger on August 11, 1949. She grew up in Topeka after her family moved there following the flood of 1951.
She married John W. Shumate on September 1, 1966 at Joplin, Missouri. They raised their family in Topeka. Chris was employed at the north K-Mart as a department manager for 15 years and retired in 2009.
Chris loved to travel by motorcycle and in the RV with her dogs especially trips to the Pacific Northwest. She enjoyed watching TV, reading and playing computer games.
Chris is survived by her loving husband, John; her children: Jonathan, Colby and Stacey; six grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Wayne Wenger (Lyndall). She was preceded in death by her parents.

Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 1-3PM on November 17, 2017 at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Funeral Chapel and Reception Center, 4700 SW 17th, Topeka, Kansas.
