Curtis L. "Bud Jones" Watson, Sr., 64, of Topeka, went to be with his Lord on Monday, February 3, 2014. He was born February 5, 1949 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the son of Preston and Obie Everett Watson.
Curtis grew up in Kansas City, KS and moved to Topeka in 1992. He graduated from Sumner High School in Kansas City, KS. He was a Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam War. He was employed by Phillips Petroleum Oil Company before retiring. He was a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church. He was also a member of CA, NA, AA and was a GSR.
Curtis married Nena Holmes in 1976. They later divorced. Curtis then married Marlene J. Beall on August 16, 2003. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Michelle Harris-Ruth, two sons, Curtis L. Watson, Jr. and Allen L. Watson, his nephew, Wendell Watson, nine grandchildren, Marquis, Brandon, Xavier, Amber, LeNena, Curtiana, Curtis, III, Davion and Chris, one grandson due in April and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is his brother, Eddie Watson. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Irene Watson, Essie B. Moore, Maple Ross, Booker T. Watson and Emma Williams and his niece, Victoria Watson.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2013 at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in Leavenworth National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. Curtis will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 10, 2014 at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 1401 N. 8th St., Kansas City, KS.
