Cynthia Kay Chambers

Cynthia Kay Chambers, 54, of Topeka, passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2009 at a Topeka hospital. She was born on November 9, 1954 in Topeka, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Daneva Alta Joyce Chambers, Sr. She graduated from Highland Park High School in 1972. She then received a BA in Elementary Education from Washburn University in 1977. She was employed as a Data Entry Processor for the State of Kansas. Cynthia was a member of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was the Assistant Superintendent for the Primary Department. She was the Youth Director, the Sunbeam Director, and worked with the Kaw Valley District and state youth. She was also a member of the Queen Esther Mission Circle. She was the Bible instructor. She also was active with evening teacher and prayer meetings. Survivors include our spiritual mother and father, Pastor and Mother William L. Templeton, three brothers, LeRoy S. Chambers of Memphis, TN, Lynn G. Chambers of Topeka, Wayne J. McClelland of Topeka, five sisters, Joyce L. Chambers, Sandra D. Chambers, Linda E. Chambers, S. Sheron (Tommy) Stewart all of Topeka and Ethel M. Elliott of Dallas, TX., twelve nieces and nephews and twelve great-nieces and great-nephews all of whom she considered her grandchildren and a host of cousins, friends and God Children of Mount Carmel Church. Also surviving are special friends. Cynthia was preceded in death by one brother, Robert W. "Bobby" Chambers, Jr. in 2001. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mount Auburn Cemetery. Cynthia will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 610 SE Lime St., Topeka, KS 66607.

The family of Cynthia Kaye Chambers would like to express our heartfelt appreciation. First to God, our Pastor Dr. W.L. Templeton, our extended family and our Church family, Dr. Jacoby, Dr. Weyrens, Dr. Weaver, The hospitalist and the ER and ICU staff. Penwell-Gabel staff, Diane at the lab and Stormont-Vail Foundation. Those who came near and far, and any other acts of kindness, most of all your prayers. Your overwhelming acts of kindness were much appreciated during this difficult time for our family.
