Cynthia Sue Johnson

Cynthia Sue Johnson, 60, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Stormont Vail Hospital. She was born March 19, 1951 in Lawrence, KS, the daughter of Donna (Brown) Baker and Francis E. Johnson (deceased).
Cynthia grew up in Henderson, NV and graduated from Basic High School in 1969. She played 1st chair solo clarinet and sang in the choir. At the age of 18, she was employed by the Las Vegas Hilton in the personnel department. She worked her way up to become the executive secretary to the president of the hotel. In 1985, she went to work at Holmes & Narver, an engineering company associated with the Department of Energy. After 2 years, she was asked to work as the executive secretary to the president of the Flamingo Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas, a job she held until December of 2005. In June 2007, she fulfilled a lifelong dream of moving to Kansas and began working at the Ramada Inn Hotel in Topeka where she remained until entering the hospital October 19th, 2011.
Cindy loved animals, and always had 3 or 4 pets. Her favorite dog, Oskie Sue, died in May. She enjoyed reading, sewing, scrapbooking, and was part of the Bocce team at the Flamingo Hilton.
Cynthia is survived by her parents, Gilbert and Donna (Brown) Baker, Albany, OR; one sister, Ann Denton, Dexter, OR; four brothers, William E. Johnson, Henderson, NV, Michael Baker, Springfield, OR, Gilbert Lee Baker, Albany, OR, Jonathan Baker, Grants Pass, OR; 13 nieces and nephews; 5 great-nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, December 15th at the Ramada Hotel, Jefferson Room, 420 SE 6th Ave. in Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Rd. Topeka, KS 66617
