D. Neil Holden

D. Neil Holden, 90, of Tecumseh, formerly of Arkansas City and Salina, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2012 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born January 21, 1922 in Waverly, KS, the son of J.B. and Leota Stine Holden. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, serving in the European Theater.

He was employed by The Shoe Mart as a manager in Arkansas City from 1951-1966. He then went to work for General Electric from 1966 until retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church in Topeka.

Neil married Martha Jean White on September 22, 1946 in Winfield. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Marcia Armour of Tecumseh, two grandchildren, Julie (Kevin) Baughman of Norton, KS, Jennifer Hill of Topeka, four great-grandchildren, Adam and Parker of Norton and Jay and Bailey of Topeka, and one sister, Ann Crawford of Arkansas City.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Graveside committal services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Bennington Cemetery, Bennington, KS. Neil will lie in state from 2:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Arkansas City Lions Club Sight Fund, 1321 N. 3rd St., Arkansas City, KS 67005 or to the Habitat For Humanity of Arkansas City or to the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
