Dale Duane Harris, 74, of Topeka, passed away on Sunday, March 13, 2005 at Stormont-Vail Regional Hospital after a lengthy battle with respiratory problems. He was born on February 3, 1931 in Topeka, the son of John L.S. and Wilma Beatrice Lacy Harris. He graduated from Topeka High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955. He then joined the Kansas Army National Guard in 1955 where he retired as a civilian employee in 1986. From 1968-1969, he served in active duty with the 69th Infantry Brigade at Ft. Carson, Colorado. He remained in the National Guard until he retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 1990. After retirement, his passions were fishing, processing black walnuts and pecans, gardening and cooking which he generously gave to everyone. He was a member of Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, Philip Billard Post No. 1650, V.F.W., Capitol Post No. 400 of the American Legion, the National Sojourners Chapter No. 128, Golden Rule Lodge No. 90 AF&AM and Scottish Rite Bodies, Valley of Topeka. He married Rosemary Ellis on May 22, 1960 in Topeka. She preceded him in death on July 3, 1991. Survivors include one son, Douglas Harris of Topeka, one daughter, Dianna Harris-Gugliuzza of Westmont, Illinois and one sister, Jacqueline Gauthier of Carcenco, LA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Ward. Mr. Harris will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:30-8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening. Cremation will follow. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at the Lakeview Church Of The Nazarene. Private inurnment will take place in Penwell-Gabel Memorial Park Cemetery.
