Daniel R. "Dan" Kenney

Daniel Roth Kenney, 75, of Topeka, passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2024.

He was born March 1, 1949, in Nevada, Missouri, the son of Orville and Luella (Roberts) Kenney. Dan graduated from Topeka West High in 1967. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Washburn University in 1980 and later earned an Associate of Applied Science in 1984. Dan joined the United States Navy in 1969 and was honorably discharged in 1972. He continued his service in the Naval reserves until military retirement in 1994.

Dan was employed by the United States Postal Service for 35+ years, until retiring. During that time, he held several distinct positions including station manager.

Dan married Donna Fry in 1972 in Topeka. From this union, Dan welcomed a son, Dane Kenney. Dan And Donna would later divorce.

Survivors include son, Dane (Kelli) Kenney; granddaughter, Brooklyn Kenney; sister, Linda (Larry) Smith; brothers, Mark (Sara) Kenney and Bruce Kenney; and several nephews, a niece, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Dan loved his family and always looked forward to the next family gathering. He also enjoyed many diverse activities that allowed him to meet many people throughout life including operating Kenney Concessions at several different venues, selling fireworks, morning coffee groups, softball, fishing, skiing, yearly canoe/camping trips, fostering kittens for Helping Hands Humane Society. Dan’s passion as a master diver brought world-wide travel. Dan was a Royals season ticket holder and loved attending the games along side his son Dane.

Dan’s wishes were for cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, July 12, 2024, at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th St, Topeka, KS. Interment of the cremated remains will follow.
