Daniel Lee Wendt, 62, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 at his home. He was born January 24, 1953, in Topeka, the son of Ralph and Virginia (Smith) Wendt. He was a lifelong Topeka resident. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Fred and Eva Wendt. He was the eldest of four brothers, Tim, Rick and Mike Wendt, of which Rick is the last surviving sibling.
In 1971, Dan graduated from Topeka West High School and went on to get a degree with honors from Washburn University in 1976. After graduation, he worked at Stormont-Vail Hospital as a medical laboratory technologist for 32 years.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie and Jason; and step-son, Jeremy. Dan appreciated spending his free time with his children, collecting coins, fishing and grilling – enjoying the most in life. Baseball was also one of his many life passions. He coached baseball for many years at Ken Berry as a pitching and team coach. He never failed to miss his beloved Royals and surely watched them bring the title back to Kansas last Sunday.
Dan will be dearly missed by his loving family and many friends. A public memorial will be held at 2:00pm Friday, November 6, 2015 at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service in Topeka, with a visitation starting at 1:00pm.
