Daniel Morrow, 61, Topeka, passed away Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born Sept. 13, 1947 in Emporia, the son of James E. and Odessa E. Commeree Morrow, who both preceded him in death. He was raised in Kansas City, KS.
Dan attended Kansas State University before serving his country in Viet Nam. Upon returning from Viet Nam, Dan was employed as a fire fighter for the Lawrence Fire department, where he became a Batallion Chief. He retired from the fire department after over 30 years of service.
After retiring, Dan graduated from Washburn University where he majored in History and Anthropology. While attending Washburn, Dan studied in Cambridge, England, Ireland and Mexico. He participated in several archaeological digs. He also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Dan had many passions including politics, genealogy, and learning new technologies.
Dan is survived by his loving companion of many years, Phyllis Hoffman; four sons, Daniel M. Morrow and Jonathan Morrow, both of Baldwin City, and Andy Putnam and Shannon Hoffman , both of Topeka; three sisters, Vada Ann Robinson of Newport, OR, Kathryn Finch of Olathe, and Karen Hensley and husband, Hollis, of Peculiar, MO; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. today at Newcomer Funeral Home, 4020 SW 6th Ave, Topeka. The casket will remain closed. Private interment will be in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Melanoma Research Foundation, 170 Township Line Road, Bldg. B, Hillsborough, NJ 08844, or to Midland Hospice House, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka 66606.
