Darlene J. Metzler, 73, passed away Thursday, May 17, 2007 at her home. She was born on October 21, 1933 in Pretty Prairie, KS, the daughter of John J. and Hulda Graber. She graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1951. After graduation she went to work for Southwestern Bell as a telephone operator and later as a service representative. While there she met Cloyd C. Metzler and they were married in 1959. They divorced in 1989.
She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by a son, Clyde C. Metzler and wife Linda, a daughter, Lori Jacobson and husband Rick, and daughter, Susan Winchell and husband Robert. She has two brothers, Allen Graber and Gale Graber both of Wichita, KS, plus nieces and nephews.
She retired from Whelan's Lumber Co. after 20 years of service as a bookkeeper. After retiring she went to work part-time at Cards N Such in Fairlawn Plaza. She enjoyed the game of golf and belonged to the Ladies Golf Leagues at Lake Shawnee and Forbes. She also was a member of the Lady Luck Investment Club and the Women of Wisdom Investment Club.
Funeral services for Ms. Metzler will be held at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka. Graveside services will be held later at 3:00 p.m. at First Mennonite Church Cemetery, Pretty Prairie, KS. She will lie in state after 11:00 a.m., Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made in Darlene's name to First Church Of God In Christ, 614 SE California Avenue, Topeka, KS 66607.
