Darlene H. Ramsey, 94, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. She was born May 14, 1930 to Earl Roy and Laura Bertha Louise (Wesch) Berndt on the family farm in Red Willow County, Nebraska, south of McCook, Nebraska, just north of the Nebraska / Kansas line.
Darlene attended Cedar Bluffs Grade School in Cedar Bluffs, Kansas and graduated from McCook Senior High School. She attended Grand Island Business College. Darlene moved to Topeka and stayed at the YWCA and worked for the Cappers Weekly. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Washburn University. She served as a school teacher at Auburn Elementary School in Auburn, Kansas for 22 years before retiring in 1992.
Darlene enjoyed teaching, spending time with family, friends and pets. She enjoyed visiting her family farm in Nebraska.
Darlene married Keith G. Ramsey on August 31, 1951 at Gage Park Baptist Church. They were the first couple married in the church. They were married for 68 years before his passing on September 21, 2019. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Katarina Kaufman.
Survivors include one son, Leland and Kim Ramsey of Lubbock, Tx; and two daughters, Linda (Lundgren) Kaufman and Ron Kaufman, Topeka; and Lanita (Goul) and Dave Nations, Topeka, eight grandchildren Sean (Therese) Lundgren, Topeka; Garrett (Bridget) Kaufman, Topeka; Jessica (Thomas) Reynolds, Lubbock Tx; Jeremy (Bethany) Ramsey, Sour Lake, Tx; Ryan (Diana) Goul, Topeka; Craig Nations, Spring Hill; Curtis (Maddie) Nations, Longmont, Co., fourteen great-grandchildren Mackensie Lundgren, Jaden (Kate Hawks) Lundgren, Morgan Lundgren, Keegan Lundgren, Shelbie Kaufman, Riley Kaufman, Maya Kaufman, Emma Kaufman, Noah Kaufman, Addison Reynolds, Avett Reynolds, Lily Ramsey, Jase Ramsey and Lucas Goul and a great-great-granddaughter, Ariyah Lundgren.
Darlene had many wonderful care givers that became her close friends. These include Diana Ball, Jamie Binko, Monica Conlin, and Jamie Jones.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2025 at Dove Southeast Chapel, 2843 SE Minnesota Ave. Private graveside services will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery, McCook, Nebraska.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 5720 SW 21st St., Topeka, Kansas 66604 or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O. Box 5014, Hagerstown, MD 21741.
