Darlene V. Ostrander, 84, Overbrook, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015.
Darlene was born November 19, 1930 in Richland, the daughter of George and Ora (Bryson) Schirmer. Her mother died at an early age and she was raised by her sister and brother-in-law, Georgia and Pat Anderson.
She graduated from Berryton High School in 1948.
She was employed as a Tax Specialist with the State of Kansas, Department of Revenue for 27 years, retiring in 1993.
Darlene married Eldon Ostrander on September 3, 1949. He died in 1979. Survivors include daughter, Linda Ostrander and husband, Gary Knight, Overbrook; son, Jerry Ostrander and wife, Jean, Topeka; grandchildren, Justin Ostrander, Jesse Ostrander, Noah Knight; great-grandsons, Dylan Ostrander, Carson Ostrander; and sister, Olive Taylor, Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Georgia Anderson, Annabelle Crady, Alice Trout, Ruth Raab; and brother, Frank Schirmer.
She was the best mom ever.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. Burial will follow at Half Day Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
