Darrel A. King, 72, of Topeka, passed away February 11, 2015. He was born in Sardis, Oklahoma on November 16, 1942 to Albert and Lorene (Kirkes) King. He was a union iron worker for local #10 for over 20 years and he reveled in the challenge and the company of his coworkers. He enjoyed being an Amway distributor. He loved fishing and hunting. Some of his prize fish were featured in Topeka Capital Journal articles. He was a recipient of a double lung transplant in 1997. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
He is survived by two sons, Darrel Jr. (Carrie) of Topeka and Jamison (Anne) of Rockford, MN; 3 grandchildren, Edison, Eliot and Eleanor; 2 brothers, Gary (Kim) of Topeka and Jim (Janet) of Perry; and a sister Janet Morris of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters.
He was a strong supporter of political reform and H. Ross Perot. He was a founder of United We Stand in Kansas and the Reform Party. He ran for governor in 1998 and was a political activist helping several state and local candidates.
A visitation to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 10:00AM to 12:00PM at Dove Cremation & Funeral Service. Inurnment will be at Underwood Cemetery, Williamstown, KS
