Darrel Francis Colton, 83, of Topeka (rural Big Springs area), passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka after a long battle with Multiple Myeloma.
He was born February 7, 1935 in Ellsworth, KS, the son of George F. and Iva R. (Munson) Colton. The family moved to Oberlin when Darrel was 6 and then to Goodland, where he was a 1953 graduate of Goodland High School.
He was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company as an installer and repairman for 30 years before retiring. He was a long time member of Capital City RC Club and the Telephone Pioneers Camping Club. He was also a member of the Lecompton Historical Society and the Topeka Genealogical Society.
Darrel married Joyce May on November 20, 1971 in Brookville, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include his sons, Lee (Rita) Colton of Leadville, CO, Lance (Sandy) Colton of Lingle, WY, step-daughter, Paula (Gordon) Kern of Oswego, KS, seven grandchildren, Kristi, Calvin, Brent, Jennifer, Stephanie, Clay and Cheyanne and his brother, Larry (Rose) Colton of Wichita, KS.
Darrel was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Colton and Charles Colton.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Shawnee Heights Baptist Church, 4335 SE 29th St. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.
