Darrel Dwain Desbien, 83, Topeka, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2007 at a local hospital.
Darrel was born in Damar, the son of Medric and Matilda (Coutour) Desbien. He graduated from Damar High School in 1941. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre.
Darrel was employed by Del Monte Corporation for 25 years, retiring in 1987 as the General Supervisor at the Topeka Distribution Center. After retirement, he volunteered at the Topeka Rescue Mission for 16 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church and Downtown Kiwanis Club.
Darrel married Beverly A. Dahm on February 13, 1965 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include children; David D. (Sharon) Desbien, Fallbrook, CA; Robert (Kristen) Desbien, Sevierville, TN; Douglas (Monica) Desbien, Wichita; Larry (Janice) Desbien, Westminster, CO; David B. (Cindy) Desbien, San Jose, CA; Angela (Jeff) Ritchie, Northridge, CA; Dwain (Ginny) Desbien, Phoenix, AZ; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2007 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Darrel will lie in state at the funeral home after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and visitation will be from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
