Darrell Lynn Jones, 70, Ottawa, formerly of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2014.
Darrell was born August 9, 1943 to Anna Mae Williams and Willis Eadley Jones of Chanute. He attended Chanute High School and graduated from Labette Community College.
Darrell served 6 years in the U.S Navy in both Vietnam and Guantanamo Bay, Philippines. Darrell worked as a Police Officer for the City of Wichita for a couple of years and later a Technician for Goodyear in Kansas City, KS. He was Chief maintenance mechanic at Allis Chalmers, and owned businesses, Darrell's Auto, Jones Automotive and Rayco Inc. He had just recently retired from American Eagle Outfitters Distribution Center in Ottawa.
Darrell married Candace Denney on August 28, 1971 in Parsons. He was the proud father of Sherri (Ted) Williford, Kyle, TX, Shannon Hermes, Parsons, Stuart (Cindy) Jones, Topeka, Amy Engstrom, Parsons; 10 grandsons; 2 granddaughters; 1 great-granddaughter; companion, Ronna Evans; brothers, Jerry Jones, Larry Jones; and sisters, Dixie Owens, and Peggy Schiefelbein. He was preceded in death by his wife of 27 years and older brother Jim Jones; and his parents.
Darrell was an active member for Emmanuel Baptist Church and a worship leader for McCrites in Topeka. Darrell was an NRA member and activist, an avid fisherman, Master Mechanic, Electrician, Welder, and Carpenter.
Darrell enjoyed spending his time helping others fixing their cars and always making people laugh.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Private family inurnment will be at a later date.
