Darren Leslie Michaels, 48, of Scranton, passed away Friday, February 21, 2014 at his home. He was born April 26, 1965, in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Floyd and Irene (Stewart) Michaels.
Darren was born in San Antonio, but spent most of his years in Kansas. He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1983. He worked at Montgomery Ward's and later was employed by Innovia Films as a film slitter. Darren was also a member of the Scranton United Methodist Church.
Darren married Opal K. Jones on July 22, 1990 in Valley Falls. She survives. Other survivors include his children, Skye Ashlie, age 10, and Brayden A., age 4; father, Floyd Michaels of Lakewood Hills; sister, Sheila Sommerfeld of Tecumseh; brother, Tom Michaels of Berryton, and sister, Julie Rodriguez of Lakewood Hills. He was preceded in death by his mother, Irene G. Anstaett, and brother-in-law, Richard Rippy.
Darren loved to sing and perform Karaoke.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Scranton United Methodist Church, 229 S. Burlingame Rd. in Scranton. Cremation will follow the ceremony. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
