David C. Brainard, 86, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 25, 2022.
He was born November 29, 1935, in Oberlin, Kansas, the son of Claude A. and Rista Sara (Miller) Brainard. He graduated from Oberlin High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959.
David was employed by Goodyear in Topeka for 31 and a half years, retiring in April of 1996. After retirement he moved to Brainard Ranch near Mankato (KS) where he raised cattle and farmed. In March of 2021 he moved back to Topeka to be closer to his son.
Mr. Brainard was a member of the Centennial Lutheran Church of Superior, NE. He also belonged to the Mankato (KS) Country Club, the Superior (NE) Country Club, the American Legion and the Elks, of Superior, NE.
David married Eunice Hope Olson on July 26, 1959; this union was blessed with one son, David R. Brainard. They later divorced. He then married Irene Rust; she predeceased him.
David enjoyed golf, reading and hunting. He was an avid sports fan, never missing a football or basketball game.
David is survived by his son, David R. Brainard (Lisa) of Topeka, KS; sister Marjorie Knovalske of DeSoto, KS; two granddaughters, Nicole Elliott (Patrick) and Kristen Ward (Brian); one grandson, Landan Ashton; six great-granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 1st at Dove Cremations and Funerals Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road in Topeka. Interment will follow at Dover Cemetery in Dover, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Mercy Hospital Resource Development Department, 2401 Gillham, Kansas City, MO, 64108.
