David Samuel Meek

February 24, 1931 — July 11, 2022

David S. Meek, 91, of Topeka, passed away Monday, July 11, 2022.

He was born February 24, 1931, in LaHarpe, Kansas, the son of Eldon and Alma (Folk) Meek.

David graduated from Field Kindley High School in Coffeyville, Kansas. He furthered his education by attending Coffeyville Community College.

He served in the United States Navy from 1951 to 1955 during the Korean War receiving the Japanese Occupation Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with Engagement Star, United Nations Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Ribbon and the First Award Navy Good Conduct Medal.

David was employed by Farmland Industries for 12 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a founding member of Chapter 313, Experimental Aircraft Association of Topeka.

David married Betty Lou Perkins on July 27, 1951, in Coffeyville Kansas. She preceded him in death on January 30, 2014.

Survivors include his two sons, Rodney Meek of Topeka and Randy (Judy) Meek of Silverhill, AL; friend and caretaker, Julie Wilson Meek of Topeka; 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; 4 siblings and his beloved English Bulldog, Sinbad.

He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Karen Meek Lyming and 3 siblings.

David enjoyed being a private pilot and playing his steel guitar and building experimental aircraft.

David donated his remains to the University of Kansas Willed Body Program for research.

A Celebration of David's Life will be held at a later date.
